The Eagles played with much better energy and consistency than they had last night, and were able to easily handle the Warriors. Neither team was able to score in the first period, although the Eagles outshot Merrimack, and the teams went into intermission tied at 0.

A back-and-forth game that featured a lot of late game scoring eventually ended with an Orange win, 79-71, in large part thanks to Syracuse guard JJ Starling’s 26 points. It was an ugly start to the second half of the season for the Eagles, who jumped out to an early lead and seemed to be in control of things for a while before things just completely fell apart. Eamon Powell, Will Skahan, and Lukas Gustafsson all returned from injury and five of the six Eagles who played for Team US in the World Juniors were in the lineup – Drew Fortescue did not play – but they played a game full of defensive miscues and to their credit, Merrimack made them pay for it
